Colombian soldiers kill Indigenous leader's husband

Negotiations resume on OAS American Declaration

WASHINGTON, DC -- The OAS Working Group in charge of negotiating the Draft American Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples held a Special Session at the OAS Headquarters in Washington D.C. on December 9th, chaired by Reynaldo Cuadros, Ambassador of the Bolivian Mission to the OAS. Renewed liquor licenses violate sanctity of Bear Butte


BEAR BUTTE, South Dakota -- Ignoring the cultural and spiritual rights of Native peoples, the Meade County commissioners recently approved renewed liquor licenses for four bars that have raised controversy because of their proximity to Bear Butte. (More...)

Fort Belknap Tribes still fighting for clean water after mine closure

HARLEM, Montana -- Our work with the Assiniboine and Gros Ventre Tribes of the Fort Belknap Reservation in Montana began in 1992. The Center has represented the Tribes in several cases aimed at shutting down the Zortman and Landusky mines – large open-pit, cyanide heap leach gold mines – and bringing the sites into compliance with water quality and environmental standards.
